How it works

Chef Watson uses natural language processing and machine learning algorithms to analyze thousands of recipes and detect patterns in ingredient combinations. This allows it to suggest up to four ingredients that work well together, taking into account the chemical composition of each ingredient and the flavors they produce.

Collaborative Cooking

The program's designers have refined Chef Watson to work collaboratively with home chefs. The application starts by letting the user pick an ingredient, dish, or style of cuisine. It then presents four ingredients that work well together, allowing the user to change any of these by selecting one of several suggested alternatives. Next, Chef Watson presents a selection of recipes, based on dishes from Bon Appétit. The user can then tweak the recipe by swapping out ingredients or adjusting cooking methods.
